What would it take to become an IFBB judge?

I am interested in learning what it would take to become a judge at bodybuilding competitions. I am assuming alot of the judges are former competitors or former coaches to competitors.

What knowledge would you need. We all love looking at female Muscle what would it take to become a judge?

Asking how to be an IFBB judge is like asking how to get to the NBA when starting from scratch.

You would start at small, local shows in your city. Then move up to regional, then national amateur (NPC) shows. It’s very much a “who you know” kind of thing, where you have to make the right connections in order to move up.

Also, you realize that you’re mostly going to be looking at male bodybuilders, right? There’s no such thing as a “female bodybuilding only” judge lol

The stranger thing is some judges aren't. I remember seeing the Mr. Olympia judges years ago and thinking "these people have never even seen a weight".

For starters, assuming you are willing to do the work necessary to become a judge, you would need to be able to answer these questions:

1) Why do you want to be a judge?

2) What are you bringing to the judging table?

I have been bodybuilding for years so i guess i appreciate the hard work behind it all and consider it to be art

Just say that Andrea Shaw wins every time, regardless of whether another competitor deserves to win because they're in better shape and condition.

That's how you become an IFBB pro judge.

I always assumed it was similar to how you become a professional wrestling manager or referee:

(1) you're a wrestler yourself but lack the size / look / mic skills to be a prime-time performer, or

(2) you're best friends with the promoter.
