It's bigger now than ever but I feel like it was a bigger deal between around 06-21. Then dropped off a year or 2 but now with all the social media anyone can get a half decent following but quite honestly not half as good or popular as that time period. But then again so many are trying nowadays too. Most live normal lives now where even 7, 8 years ago might have been viewed at as living, breathing Goddeses.
Yes and no. The pros are getting bigger. The main issue is that at the amateur NPC level, there aren't any girls coming up. There are currently no entries for WBB or Women's Physique for the NPC Nationals this year. None.
They had 13 in Womens physique at Junior Nationals and 4 in bodybuilding.
Most of the ones that end up in bodybuilding on the IFBB level come from physique anyway.
It is sad that small local npc shows will have 10-15 bikini competitors and only 3-4 physique of whom 2 crossed over from figure.
Wife wanted to compete in Bikini. Told her she needs to shoot for physique. You don't have to pose in heels and your odds of winning increase.
I think most of these girls start out thinking they can earn a pro card naturally in bikini. Once they realize they can't and hop on the sauce, I think they become more open to growing into the next division

It’s a big jump from bikini to physique. Why not compete in figure?
Figure also requires heels.
So is your wife currently gunning for physique??
Not at the moment. Will probably crank up around January
Wowwww, what's her height and weight

Man, collectively, that feels like a mistake. What I continue to see are a lot of "wow, she's jacked!" figure competitors out there who go on their Instagram stories lamenting being "too big", etc etc. Among Americans, I can understand the mindset that makes them delineate and draw a hard line between bikini/figure and physique/bodybuilding, but I also see an opportunity for someone with ambition to make a division her own, if she wants.
Standard disclaimer: Everyone can do - or not do - whatever the fuck they want. I'm just sharing my opinion based on what I like to watch as a consumer.
Superb!!
well it is certainly a change from the days of Cory Everson and co

it is worse over here at present we have at best one physique competitor at any of the shows oh how we miss the days of Mary Ann .. Paula Bircumshaw Lohani Noor and the rest filling the stage at bodybuilding shows , and they were sold out muscle shows too

I agree. A LOT of figure competitors need to be in Physique.

too many divisions in bodybuilding as it is
It seems to me the better, more competitive contests this year all have had bigger women. And, they are being rewarded for their muscularity! I think we’re seeing big women making a comeback, but what do you think?
