The specific technique of binding as shown in this picture is called Kinbaku - in english "Tight binding", a Really Specific style that originates from Japan.

This was our Christmas card this year. I'm not sure if it fits 100% for what you were looking for CG, but I thought this was a good place to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Much thanks to Chainer and the mods for maintaining a first-class website for the athletes and the fans.
