"New" Icon

There used to be a "New" icon next to photos you hadn't viewed yet.  That was a good feature. What happened to it?

I took it off because it turns out it's extremely hard to keep track of all the pictures people have viewed without some sort of a problem:

-If I use a database to keep track of all the pictures people have viewed, it's too resource-intensive.
-If I use a cookie on users' computers to keep track of the pictures that person has viewed, the cookie becomes too long and some IE users become unable to access the site.

Ah, fair enough. Just really liked that feature.
