The Lakehouse. One of my favorite horror short films ever. slope game

11/6/24 EDIT :: Stupid, stupid, freaking stupid. I linked the wrong film above and I didn't realize it until just now. THIS. Is the film I was thinking about:

HOUSE RULES

Wow, what a creepy tale! Heartbreaking, but a real cautionary-tale. Leave abusers as soon as you can & do it safely. If she had succeeded in her plan though, she would have gone to prison. Its horrible that she died, he was a disgusting ghoul, she should have just left him once he left for work! Eerie sequence though, having her 'return' & get revenge.....& then we see her ghost visiting her home sadly.

I'd definitely prefer if Trump didn't win but both parties are basically right wing at this point and I'm tired of pretending they aren't. I still voted but there's no real progressive option and I've lost faith in the system to give us another one. Voting is ultimately a distraction and we should be more focused on what's in front of us and what we can actually do to affect change right now imo (like protesting, strikes, mutual aid, organizing, unionizing, local politics, forming and building communities back up in general).

There is plenty of coverage about the electoral system in the USA here in Austria, but rarely ever something about the process of voting itself. How does that work? To put the whole thing into a context, this is how our national election works ( we do not have a presidental system ... but thats another story.

  • entitled to vote are all austrian citizens, with a minimum age of 16 years.
  • a couple of weeks prior to the election a letter is senbt to the pcinipal residence of the elgible voter. In this letter you are assigned to a ballot.
  • on the day of election, the ballots have a strict opening and closing time. No voting outside of that timeframe
  • arriving at the ballot, there is an assignbment to a particular room
  • only one person at a time might enter. You are asked to show passport (or equivalent id), and receive the voting sheet
  • there is a covered box where you can enter to put your marks on the sheet. The sheet is folded and put into an empty envelope
  • At the end you stick the envelope into the collection box
  • in every room there are a few poeple observing the process (presumably representing the various political parties)

Is it somehwat similar in the US ?

Dick Cheney is the closest to Palpatine I've seen in real life. I am shocked Harris is so proud to have his support. A lot of guys my age lost life and limb to IEDs in the desert based on his lies (to enrich himself and his friends).

At least we can all agree he's a piece of shit right? I highly doubt he turned 80 and grew a conscience.

Dick Cheney is worse a far worse person and leader than Trump. Tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people are dead or permanently injured directly because of Dick Cheney. He is legitimately evil and I can't believe he's is so warmly embraced after a few years out of the public eye.

To quote Jon Stewart when the news broke that Cheney was endorsing Harris: "Fuck that guy! Seriously. Fuck that guy!"

The person I responded to literally mentioned Dick Cheney... That's what is quoted above my response.

Harris mentioned Dick Cheney's support during the presidential debate and at rallys. I'm not sure how that's grasping at straws.

Look, I can go to Twitter to have disingenuous political debates with strangers. I don't see how falsely accusing me of grasping at straws is productive. I don't understand why you're so supportive of Dick Cheney. I guess I'm just against war and I feel sympathy for the thousands of dead Iraqi children and American soldiers.

Heavy edits:

Yes, lying about WMDs and causing a decades long war is worse than saying mean things on Twitter. I have not expressed support for Trump or Harris. I have only expressed disdain for Cheney. I am reasonable and consistent. I have provided references to my claims below.

I get you want your team to win, but Dick Cheney is literally an unrepentant war criminal. He is the only person involved who still refuses to admit the Iraq invasion was a mistake.

That is wonderful HeavilyEdited. I now understand your position. Of course, Dick Cheney's term was a long time ago and he is a Republican that had to deal with a Republcan series of wars and mass killings. I am sorry I didn't observe the original item you were responding to --- I am busy here with just seconds to deal with this sort of stuff.

But, we must all keep in mind that when Trump wins and joins with Kim Jong Un, Xi and Putin, an entirely new world of death and destruction will arise....who cares about a repeat of the Depression of the 1920's when everyone is dying anyways.

It is fair criticism, she has not done a good job of communicating what her exact plans are. For instance, what is her plan for solving the immigration crisis? We know Trump wants violent mass deportation, which is obviously horrible, but what is Kamala's approach to the problem?

She has said numerous times that she plans on signing the bill that was proposed at the beginning of the year into law on day 1. She's not the problem. It's the media that's not communicating anything other than Trump's insane rhetoric

How do you explain how virtually every person who served in his cabinet, all the "best people" that he hand-picked, lifelong Republicans and dyed-in-the-wool conservatives DO NOT SUPPORT TRUMP now?

Can you think of a time when major standard-bearers from the opposite party backed the other party's candidate the way so many Republicans are backing Harris. You can't call them all RINOs. Dick Cheney is no RINO.

Trump's AG, William Barr:

“Gun owners are very disappointed that President Trump’s nominee for Attorney General is a committed, gun control advocate. Barr says that the ‘single most important thing’ he can do in the area of gun control is to support Red Flag Gun Confiscation Orders, which have already resulted in the death of an innocent gun owner in Maryland.

gunowners.org/goa-statement-william-barr/

Barr supports Gun Confiscation Orders: “… it is critical that we get an effective system in place that keeps firearms out of the hands of mentally ill people… A key part of any such system are laws that allow ‘Extreme Risk Protection Orders’ [aka Gun Confiscation Orders].” (Barr answer to Sen. Cornyn Question #1.)

Barr explains why he could still support the semi-auto and magazine bans that he supported in 1991: ”I would look for … whether [the] burden [of a gun-control measure] has a sufficiently meaningful impact on crime to justify burdening a fundamental right…” (Barr answer to Sen. Kennedy Question #3.)

Barr supports the Lautenberg misdemeanor gun ban, which takes guns away from people who engaged in shouting matches in the home: “I look forward to working with you and the Committee on this important issue.” (Barr answer to Sen. Feinstein Question #46.)

gunowners.org/barr-doubles-down/

Just to make it clear, under these Orwellian Gun Confiscation Orders, a “secret court” can strip a gun owner of his constitutional rights based on a showing as low as “reasonable” suspicion that the person is “dangerous.”

I like how you post that quote with 0 context, like it was a blanket statement in regards to all Americans. This quote was a direct response to Nikolas Cruz the mass shooter of Parkland who used an AR-15. Trump was talking in terms of expediting his case doe maximum penalties. Juxtapose that with Harris who made statements regarding ALL Americans like mandatory gun buy backs, and "assault" weapons bans. You cherry picked every argument in every single link and stopped short of context. Harris would be the president you deserve.

No. I posted the full video for context, and the full context is even worse. Trump was questioned about the difficulty of passing gun laws due to the NRA, to which he replied that he's not worried about the NRA.

The gun confiscation he's referring to involves red flag laws, which he is a vocal proponent of. Red flag laws apply to ALL Americans, as they grant (potentially liberal) judges the authority to deem who is and is not fit to own a firearm based on extremely vague and subjective criteria.

Trump, at his core, is a populist. He goes with whatever popular opinion is at the time. In the face of mass shootings and increased demand for stricter gun regulation, he has consistently turned away from the Second Amendment. That being said, if your commitment to the Second Amendment wavers in the face of adversity, then you were never a true advocate to begin with.

Additionally, Trump has been anti-gun his entire life, before he even ran for President he was advocating for gun bans.

Like I said, they're both terrible candidates. The thing is, why take the volatility and division Trump brings when he's liberal on guns and the economy. What am I gaining from him? It would be an entirely different story if he was actually a staunch conservative. Then, it would be worth the headache he brings. But that's not the case.

Nov 05, 2024 - context

The thought of a Harris presidency is terrifying.

Only if you're listening the echo chamber full of retards shrieking about communism and socialism and Willie Brown.

If you actually look at platforms and what these candidates have said and done, there is only one rational choice and it ain't Trump.

How do you explain how virtually every person who served in his cabinet, all the "best people" that he hand-picked, lifelong Republicans and dyed-in-the-wool conservatives DO NOT SUPPORT TRUMP now?

Can you think of a time when that has ever happened to any other presidential candidate?

Can you think of a time when major standard-bearers from the opposite party backed the other party's candidate the way so many Republicans are backing Harris. You can't call them all RINOs. Dick Cheney is no RINO.

So, either Trumo is a buffoon or absolutely everyone else is a secret deep state socialist RINO conspirator. Which seems more likely?

It's honestly terrifying seeing my fellow countrymen fully indoctrinated like this. No matter what happens, it's going to take 10+ years to undo the cancer that Trump has metastasized throughout the body politic. The GOP needs a MAGA-ectomy because this shit is terminal.

I would love to see how all the yes-men and sycophants like Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz and all the others who Trump insulted and humiliated rationalize getting in line and huffing his farts now. I guess power is more important than having a shred of integrity for some people.

Nov 05, 2024 - context

Harris would be the president you deserve.

As opposed to Trump who left office with an unemployment rate above 6% (reached a high over 14%) and ran up 7.8 trillion in national debt (for CONTEXT, that led to massive inflation)

Now please, explain away how high unemployment was actually genius and Trump is your Cheeto crusted God.

Nov 05, 2024 - context

I voted against Trump because I really despise him but my gut feeling is that he probably pulls off a narrow win. The inflation/cost of living crisis has really hurt the Democrats with the middle class suburbanites and urban working class voters they need to win

Yeah that's my concern too. As James Carville said, it's the economy, stupid!

The irony of course is that Trump had little to do with the health of the economy while he was in office and everyone conveniently forgets that the inflation and all the rest that was triggered by COVID began on his watch. House and rent wasn't affordable under him either and crime was actually HIGHER.

These people have selective memory. Not to mention the fact that 99/100 economists will tell you that tariffs and a trade war are an absolute shit strategy if you're trying to lower the price of consumer goods. I guess people also forget about the tariffs Trump did on China while he was in office. They resulted in retaliatory tariffs that hurt American farmers so badly that Trump needed to push through a huge $40 billion relief package for them. Not that he's a person who learns from his mistakes....

This shit is going to get UGLY if this decrepit 79 year old oompa-loompa gets re-elected. No wonder the Heritage Foundation wants to abolish the Department of Education. Without stupid people, Trump wouldn't have a change of getting elected.

Trump Calls for Linking New Gun Control Legislation to Immigration Reform

Keep your eye on one thing and one thing only: how much government is spending," economist Milton Friedman famously said during the Carter administration. "Because that's the true tax.

Under Trump's signature, even before the coronavirus, the sticker price on that annual levy was jacked up by almost $1 trillion.

President Donald Trump said it should be easier to confiscate people's guns when they are deemed a threat to others. That prescription may or may not prevent any murders, but it will certainly hurt many innocent Americans by depriving them of their Second Amendment rights.

Fantasizing about shooting people? What he said is that warhawks like Liz Cheney would think twice about sending our children to war if she had a gun pointed at her, or if she had to serve. The context is - if the shoe was on the other foot. And remember, Trump WAS shot due to the left's violent rhetoric. Do you purposely take things out of context or are you that fucking stupid?

He was shot due to his own violent rhetoric. For instance, he recently said that he doesn't care if the media gets shot. It's that type of rhetoric that creates the type of climate we're in now. But, his supporters will never hold him accountable for anything.

Peanut was a beloved squirrel with a large social media following. The state of New York sent 12 goons to Peanut’s owner’s home, grabbing Peanut and another animal, a raccoon called Fred. The state of New York proceeded to euthanize both animals.

This is an example of an overreaction to a small, petty infraction. The animals brought joy to millions via their social media accounts. They lived for many years with their owners, and were harming no one. There are many issues going on in New York State that needs addressing yet the powers that be spent resources on this nonsense.

Republicans stand for smaller/limited government.
