ok, so I had my last day at my psycology class. There have been this girl, whom I have around three different classes with. I noticed from the start of the year, that she had some really buff arms. Ofcourse I have at times been looking at her arms while in class, and ofcourse hoped to see her flex.
I talk to her from time to time in the class, but we are not friends or anything. So this wednesday, witch was the last day at class, the class was just sitting around a big table, drinking coffee and talking about random stuff. And only for around 10 minutes time, I was talking with some of the girls(including the buff girl) about workout routines, and muscles in general. The talk was mainly focusing around workout and muscles on men, but also a little about the huge FBB whom everyone agreed was too much, I just made a short comment on that i thought it was pretty, as long as the girl wasn't too big, like my girlfriend.
A few of the girls went to the gym regularely, including the buff girl ofcourse. And all of a sudden, without me even trying to enforce it, the buff girl said, "you guys wanna see something funny" and I could tell that she was beginning to pull up the little bit of sleeve covering her arms, and BAM, she flexed a serious bicep, and made it jump by twisting her wrist. The other girls were like wow! me too, but covered it up pretty good, since im used to seeing my girlfriends muscles, and i just said, "wow you have big armmuscles" and she just replied, "well you should see my sisters, they are even bigger". That was pretty much it! we didn't really talk more about it, and the class ended, and im probably only gonna see her again for the examns and thats it.

Now to the reason for this telling:
I didn't do anything to enforce the subject at all, Im pretty sure the flex would have happend even if i wasn't there. It's not the first flex im experiencing, I have seen alot of random flexes, some of them I have enforced a little, by complementing on a girls arms or just talking about workout and showing possitive attitude about it, maybe most importantly be relaxed about it. So in general, a flex or fun armwrestling match happens to me some times a year.
So my question is, why is it that for some people in here it never happens to? is it because they don't feel comfertable around the whole muscle subject? it still doesn't answer the question, when it regards the unenforced flexing, I wonder how some people in here still are waiting for their first real flex, if you are out in public here in Denmark, you can almost not go through a year without that happening.

So in my mind, I have a few explanation on why it just doesn't happen to all of the guys in here:
*Danish girls are just more relaxed about it - still makes me wonder, cause i also experienced random flexes from a few girls from Ireland and germany.
*Some guys are just not that much around girls, even if they go out, they tend to stay around other guys - still makes me wonder, cause this was in a class, and I remember from earlier years armwrestling some of the girls from elementary school, and again, I didn't always play a part in starting the armwrestling.
*Some guys can seem so intense on the subject, that when the random talk ends up on muscles, workout etc. a guy who admire muscles will scare of a girl to flex, because the guy makes the girl unconfertable - still makes me wonder, cause a couple of weeks ago when I was volunteering in a bar at a concert, I just stood there and saw a girl flexing her right bicep two times while talking to another girl, I had nothing to do with it, i was just there.

I don't know why im writing this, im just wondering why some guys say they have never seen a flex in real life, or even been around a girl who had some muscles.
I guess guys who yet has a flex to experience, can ask themself the questions to why they never saw a flex, and maybe persuit some of the ways to get higher chances to experience flexes :D

Sorry for my horrible english :p

Hey, well it's my first post and this is a really interesting subject. I'm a really open guy, who likes to party and go crazy, I can socialize with anyone and would be considered "cool" by most of you. My likeness for GWM is a secret, or atleast was until this saturday, and this is the part when it gets interesting; I'm 20 years old and live in Venezuela, and I've never been with a muscular chick (it's my ultimate dream).

So this girl has a crush on me, she's 16, she's an old ex-gf's cousin (she's athletic, she likes doing sports and such), we screwed around about 3 months ago and since then I rarely talked to her, but she was still thinking about me and sending me text msgs once in a while, we had talked few things since we met, (only as a friend and when I was bored), and since we had sex we liked to dirty talk a lot, so we trusted each other a bit, so saturday, she pops in msn messenger and tells me: "why don't u like me better", and it comes into a half an hour conversation, until I said it, I revealed my secret: "I like girls with muscles, a six-pack, biceps...etc.". So she tells me: "I'll do it", I was awestruck and I had to make sure that what I was reading was real, so I said: "u'll do what?", she said: "I'll become all muscular for you, I'll train from monday to sunday until I get as muscular as you want. In 3 months you'll see." So now I can't stop thinking about her and her future muscular physique... What do you guys think?.

Muscle Building means hard work, and like many other things in life there is no quick fix.  However, hard work and dedication isn’t always the miracle solution for gaining muscle mass, because no matter how hard some people try they just can’t get the right amount of muscle or that “bodybuild” they are looking for.  This is where Bodybuilding supplements come in.  In regards to buying supplements and using them, there is no one all powerful supplement, and it takes using about a few to get an effective combination.  Of course eating naturally and supplementing with natural foods is the best way, but with the massive wave of supplements out in the market it is worth doing your research to see which ones can be safe and effective for taking training to another level.

Here are three categories for bodybuilding supplements that are important to know in order to get the best out of them.

1.)   Muscle Recovery
2.)   Muscle Building
3.)   Energy Production

So, what are the best supplements in each category?

Ultimately it comes down to what has been time tested and is scientifically proven.

Muscle Recovery-
After getting all pumped in the gym this is the best time to recover and nurture your muscles in order to enable the growth process.  In other words, the way a muscle grows in size is during the phase of recovering.  After working out your body automatically repairs and protects its own muscle by making more of it, and so this continues as you exercise more and more until the repairing process builds muscle to the point of attaining a ripped appearance.  Supplementing this repairing process is exactly what glucosamine does.  In essence, the supplement glucosamine aids recovery of your muscles from heavy workouts.  There are literally hundreds of glucosamine products out in the market, so it really comes down to research and learning more about the body to get the right one for a current workout stage.

Muscle Building-

Supplementation in building muscle is really overrated in regards to supplement advertising.  The reality is a routine for building muscle requires a sufficient amount of protein on a regular basis.  Protein; in the supplement world, is the fuel and builder of muscle and could be taken through many means including protein foods.  Eggs, chicken, vegetables, fruits, red meat, protein powders, or making your own meal replacements are all great ways to get protein.  Also, there is creatine, which is possibly an enormous contributor to building muscle mass when combined with lots of protein.  Creatine could be found in supplements, pills, protein powders, and meal replacements.  Creatine is typically found in the body’s skeletal muscle system and therefore getting amounts of this with the necessity that is protein, will provide a potent combination for gaining muscle.

Energy Production-

When it comes to energy there is almost nothing that can surpass carbohydrates.  Carbohydrates can come from many foods and sources, two of them being breads and pasta.  What carbohydrates do is provide energy and stamina during a workout, so it is much like a source of fuel.  In addition to foods carbohydrates could also be found in various formulas such as that of powder-like supplements being added to liquid.

These are the supplements that anyone can use to increase performance and build greater looking muscles, not just bodybuilders.

In this time of the year many people are interested in building muscle mass, you could see the gyms begin to pack up by January and then again in the Spring/Summer season as everyone is wanting to attain that “Beach Body”.  Due to this, you’ll see health and fitness center parking lots usually packed with vehicles driven by people looking for the infinite advantages of good fitness health.  However, many of these people are also looking for a quick fix, and they do not realize that building muscle tissue takes incredible amounts of dedication, time and energy.  The “fast food” mentality won’t work in this area, and so a person is setting up failure if they expect to “get ripped” overnight. There are also no healthy or reputable products aimed at gaining lots of muscle fast, despite what some products may claim. Yet, there are a few ways to build muscle tissue in a short amount of time and a few of these starting points are easy to apply.

1.)   Large Muscle Groups- First thing anyone should know about gaining muscle mass is that you should focus on exercising your larger muscle groups from the outset.  Many beginners dedicate and waste lots of time trying to perfect smaller muscles like calves, stomach muscles, and biceps, not realizing that by building the larger muscle groups your smaller muscle groups will grow more substantially.  For example, working on your chest and back will automatically push your smaller muscle groups to workout too.

2.)   Select an Appropriate Weight- Another point I want to mention is being selective in the weights you choose.  So if you want to build bigger muscle or bulk up you should utilize heavier weights, and stay about ten to twelve repetitions for each set.  Something to take note of are professional bodybuilders, notice how any exercise with heavy weights is made up of a small amount of repetitions, so it’d be smart to adopt this technique.  The reason for quicker gains with this approach is that you’re putting extra strain on each muscle area, and with more strain eventually comes larger muscle tissue over a span of time.  The saying “no pain no gain” comes to mind because in order to achieve any evolution in fitness it’s mandatory to increase resistance at higher levels but in short bursts.  In order to gain muscle mass in a reasonable amount of time the weight has to be right, so the ability to do greater than 15 repetitions (reps) for every set indicates that their too lightweight. On the other hand, if you cant complete a set with about 10 repetitions (reps) then the weight is too heavy.  So your focus should be to find a middle ground, and this would be having a tough strain on the muscle while still being able to carry out a set with the weights; having this balance would be the correct path in building up more muscle.

3.)   Take Small Breaks-   With muscle building comes the (sometimes overlooked) process of muscle repair; it makes sense that to rest is to repair.  Resting is an essential part of bodybuilding, and the truth is that your body responds to your prior workout sessions while resting, and therefore you develop the muscle mass at these times.  Constantly pushing your muscles to the limit when exercising means that you’re “hurting” them as an advantageous result to the fact that resting will be the “recuperation” phase, the part where you make your muscles bigger and more powerful.  When referring to small breaks, typically 2-3 days spread out between your muscle building program is a good idea, but you could also choose to schedule a resting day in the week.  Another way of approaching this process is focusing on different muscle groups throughout your visits to the gym; whether it’s at home or not.  For example, when working out your chest today your legs could be resting from the previous day of working them out.

To conclude, these are just a few of the many suggestions for beginners to learn how to build muscle the right way.  Of course further research for bodybuilding should be done; especially if you want to learn about the right nutrition, water intake, and all the things that would be helpful in paving a more resourceful path.  My main recommendation though is to focus on what really works; such as techniques and strategies that stand the test of time, rather than always searching for the next big thing.

Hi April,
I know where you're coming from and I understand, but I hope you'll reconsider. I hope you know that you have way more fans here than enemies. Don't let a few bums get you down. They're not worth it. Think of the fun times you've had here on GWM, not the bad stuff.

Well, if you're leaving us, I can only say thank you for sharing your pictures here and for being a friend. Perhaps I'll run into you somewhere, sometime in another place. Perhaps not. In any case, you have my very best wishes. Take care.

When you see him back on the golf course with his nine iron bent around his neck,

I know this is a bit off topic.  But I notice this photo in the paper and it got me thinking.  Does not the two women on either side of Tiger Woods mom, look like type of women he likes to bang.  Tall, blonde, big racks, a bit trashy.  I bet 5 bucks he banging one or both of these chicks.

What do you all thinks?

Yeah... I think people try to read too much into things, at times.  Sure, there are the people with low self-esteems out there, or those who feel a need to "escape" back to some earlier point in their life.  But all of that doesn't serve to adequately explain things for the rest of us....

I know in my own case, I'm not that interested in going to the gym and getting really strong/muscular myself.  I have an admiration for anyone who is disciplined enough to do it, and have no problems with the fact that they're setting goals for themselves and working to achieve them.  I just feel that I'm an "above average intelligence" guy who earns his living doing more mental than physical things in life, and I try to live a healthy enough lifestyle in general so I'm not grossly "unfit".  I'm content to be "average" in physical strength and personally am not that interested in investing my time and efforts in that particular direction.

On the flip side, I find muscular women very attractive ...   To me, it's partially the idea that I like individuals who truly express themselves as individuals.  Muscles on women still aren't "the norm" or even necessarily "socially acceptable", so that makes it all the more appealing when I see it.  I know it's a woman who is "marching to the beat of her own drummer".  I guess it's also partially that I'm turned on and amazed by a woman who is capable of doing physical things I know I can't do myself.  (To that extent, if I was working out in the gym regularly, I'd probably be more of an equal match to them and that would kind of take some of the fun out of it for me.)

anon - thanks for your concise re-cap - also you raise an interesting question and one which the mindful among us often wonder about around here.  Namely, why the desire for a beating and the like?  So I poked around and did some research, and I found this from a very reputable source (Psychology Today - a leading psych magazine):

"Also, some bottoms want to be beaten because they have low self-esteem and think they deserve it."

Notice that the quote says "some" - what they're getting at is that submissiveness exists on a continuum.  Towards the more moderate forms it is considered an acceptable form of "play," but towards the extreme end of the spectrum it is considered pathological (i.e. a problem).  Aside from abject abuse and actually receiving beatings, it's unclear whether mere fantasies would ever be considered pathological - but the implication seems to be they are not.  On the other hand, I would argue that low self-esteem is probably a major root cause even among less extreme cases.  Of course, there is an additional psychological complexity present here where an aesthetic desire for the female to be hard and muscular is present too. What's puzzling is that I'm sure that many among us are quite well-adjusted and reasonably self-confident people with healthy self-esteems, in which case, why is submissiveness and catering to low-self-esteem tendencies deemed a drug-like treat?  I'm not sure by any means, but I will posit one potential explanation:  reversion.  We may be reverting to a prior psychological state perhaps from childhood or adolescence at which time we were weaker than we are today.

Anyway, that's my musing for the day :-P
