To be clear I'm fine with stuff like "I'm [glad/upset] that [Trump/Harris] [won/lost]" just not "we sure showed you fuckers, take that 🖕🖕🖕"

Well, maybe Trump won't persecute liberals, start a world war, or destroy democracy in the next four years.

But when people regard not going crazy as an expectation or advantage of a president, it's already crazy.

The only thing that comforts me is that Trump will cancel meaningless identity politics such as race, gender, LGBT, etc. I don't want to be accused of racism just because I want to see girls of a certain race anymore.

Politics aside it's clear Kamala ran one of the worst campaigns in modern memory, and Trump ran one of the most tireless, relentless, and at many times, the smartest. Those gimmicks in the closing weeks with McDonalds and the dump truck were masterful. JD Vance crushed every hostile interview he was thrown (cheerily) into. The return rally to Pennsylvania on the same stage he was shot and Trump beginning with "As I was saying!" was hysterical, and the courage he showed after being shot in that very moment was more than I'd expect from anyone period, let alone a New York billionaire.

Hate him all you want but he had the 80% disfavorable media coverage to overcome, huge politically motivated lawsuits, two assassination attempts, they tried to even pull him off the ballot in multiple states... The odds were massively against him and he still pulled it off. I am stunned at his success.

If you're a democrat the right questions you should be asking yourself today is why does your party leadership choose your candidates for you. You should've had your own choice of candidate after Biden dropped out. Maybe that would have prevented this utter bloodbath.

One of the benefits of being a racist, homophobe, xenophobe etc., in this day and age is that it allows for you to speak truthfully about what's on your mind. I'd rather revel in the satisfaction of that than I would the humiliation of saying nothing when Big Mike, The Emperor's wife, swings on by in his birthday suit.

Well, that's simply not how things work. The people who would accuse you of racism, over that, aren't going to suddenly change their views just because Trump was elected. That doesn't make any sense.

Secondly, the Trump campaign is/was obsessed with race. Identity politics aren't going away.

That was spoken beautifully for the simple fact that it was spoken truthfully. And as much as the truth sometimes hurts it is still a beautiful thing.

Trump didn't start identity politics, so he's not obligated to attempt to end it. Chickens coming home to roost as they say.

I only read this thread to see if there were any sane comments. Thank you. What's funny is that Trump is actually a moderate deal-maker, and it is not very hard to point out examples. Yet the media-driven TDS is so strong the old "occupy" folk are supporting the very people they say claim are ruining their lives.

Politico is hardly a right wing, Pro Trump news source, but give this article a read and listen to their bleating on behalf of the billionaire class.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/11/03/busi...

And if you won't read the whole thing, these paragraphs give you the jist.

"Vance has consistently bashed big business, expressed antipathy toward corporate merger activities, sided with labor and emphasized his support for costly tariffs. He’s spoken favorably of the Biden administration’s Federal Trade Commission chair, Lina Khan, who is universally viewed as a thorn in the side of major businesses, and forged unlikely alliances with progressives including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

With Vance by Trump’s side, some corporate leaders worry a second Trump administration would be even more hostile to their interests than the first was. While he would have little agenda-setting power of his own, Vance would likely reinforce Trump on key economic issues — trade policy, labor issues, market power —"

I find it fascinating that a left-leaning source like Politico points out these truths, but does it with sympathy towards multinational, race to bottom "fat cats". TDS is so strong that even when left-sympathetic people have an opportunity to actually score on the field, they will side with the "status-quo" military industrial complex.

Speaking the truth truly does set you free, even when it costs you everything.

Trump continues to move the Republican party further left, yet Democrats hate it and Republicans love it. Odd times.

People can say they think Asian girls are the most beautiful or they only want to date African girls, but if the subject is changed to white girls, they will immediately be accused of racism. This is the hypocrisy of liberals. Many liberals think they pursue morality, but what they really pursue is the moral superiority when criticizing others

Trump is quite right-wing on political and cultural issues, but a little left-wing on economic issues compared to traditional Republicans. This is because he has a large number of workers and rural voters who prefer left-wing economic policies.

However, whether it is tax cuts for the rich or anti-union, Trump is far from the traditional left.

My last vote was for Obama in 2012. This is exactly why I voted for Trump this time. The left HATES people like me. Others have realized the same, and voted accordingly.

Kamala ran a horrible campaign. She didn't do anything to motivate voters to vote for her, as opposed to simply encouraging people to vote against Trump—a huge difference. She gave the most generic speeches at every rally. She didn't do anything to distance herself from Biden, which was necessary given his low approval. She failed to address one of the top concerns: illegal immigration. She failed to meet young voters where they are. People under 50 aren't watching 60 Minutes, The View, etc. She needed to do more podcasts and other new media to reach younger voters. I could go on and on; it was just an absolutely awful campaign.

Then, boasting about endorsements from the Cheneys was just the icing on a big cake of stupidity. Doing that helps position Trump as the outsider, the anti-establishment candidate. Democrats should understand the value in running as an outsider better than anyone else, because it's one of the main factors that propelled Obama's runs. IMO, Trump's campaigns were simply the "Republican" version of Obama's. Trump, as old and out of touch as he is, made a significant effort to be hip, cool, transparent, and offer significant CHANGE. Kamala made no such attempts.

Additionally, I find it odd how liberals have complained about the racism that still exists in this country, yet they assumed that the racism exhibited by the Trump campaign would be his demise. It's as if they forget what country they were in.

As I stated earlier, American ignorance was being underestimated. I say ignorance based on several factors. Alleged conservatives have nominated (going back to the primaries) a candidate who is anti-gun, anti-free market, and fiscally liberal. Trump was by far the most liberal candidate in the Republican field. Additionally, the ignorance of not understanding or caring about the consequences of allowing such dangerous rhetoric to seep into our political discourse cannot be emphasized enough.

Hypocrisy is just part of the human condition for most. It can be found on both sides of the political spectrum. Democrats loved Obama because he campaigned on ending wars and bringing about peace in the Middle East. Instead, he bombed and incited conflict while his supporters remained mum. Trump actually had a peaceful term, and Democrats chastised him for being weak.

Republicans claim to be fiscally conservative, yet turned a blind eye to Trump's huge deficit, which was even bigger than Obama's (pre-covid), who they claimed was a socialist. Politics is full of hypocrisy. Socially, these same people bemoan identity politics and how much the left cares about race, yet they'll get up in arms if too many fictional characters in a video game are Black. They're all hypocrites.

I would say it's because he's a lifelong Democrat. But I admit I am being a bit biased by calling him liberal. I do so because the two top issues for me are always gun rights and the economy, on which Trump is very liberal. From a broader perspective, it would probably be more fair to label him as a populist, neither conservative nor liberal.

You aren't the only person to feel that way Gatsby. Any normal person would be aghast at even the thought of a convicted felon, wannabe fascist and rapist winning the presidency. The World is watching and getting ready for possible crazy person and insane crew to maybe win. If that happens, goodbye job, apartment, savings, freedom and a whole lot more.

looks like he won the popular vote. are the voters not normal people or do you think its more likely that its just you who isnt normal?

I think it's interesting that this community is one of the most cognitive places on the internet I know of when we are forced to discuss politics. PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!
