Only 10 to 15 % of the active Japanese female physique competitors are younger than 40 years and only Fujiwara Ayaka and Miyashita Akina play a prominent role. So fitness/bikini competitions might be more interesting.

37 of 41 athletes have fulfilled their qualification through tournaments this year. Katayama Megumi (12th place Nihon Physique 2022) and Atago Tamako (10th place Nihon Physique 2021) qualified through Nihon Physique of the last five years. Adachi Akiko (9th place Nihon Physique 2014) and Ôkura Shimae (winner Osaka prefecture 2009) must have needed a recommendation from their association. (82 athletes met the qualification criteria this year and 37 of them entered Nihon Physique.)

I updated the diagram of the average age of all competitors in 3 major tournaments (Nihon Physique, Japan Open, Nihon Class) since 2010:

The overall trend to older athletes continues.

Since entry list of the Kitaku Open tournament has been published, I can provide an overall statistic: 149 athletes participate(d) in 2024 JBBF female physique category. Last year 131. Which mean the "boom" that started in 2016 is not over yet.
