Yes but how can the uploader who loses a merge see that? They can't "Just check the image numbers".
Checking to see if an image has been uploaded under the name is important and not difficult to do.

Yes but that is a separate issue, specially for very new uploads - if it's in the queue but actually uploaded earlier it won't necessarily be visible before you upload your version. You'll see your upload only until the earlier upload gets added to the model gallery then the differing image numbers are comparable by uploaders and it's clear who has got there first. Numbers aren't comparable when they then get merged. Only Mods can see both then.
Also not everyone is aware of the name of the model they found the image of. Also sometimes images are only discovered to be duplicate after they have been in the queue.
Also, sometimes a more recent upload is of better quality, making it a better candidate, but this is not always the case. We still deal with people uploading screenshots or dog-food quality images.
A small doubt (in a positive way), why is the image is not being displayed in my profile (posted by me) or sef ?
Because Siddharth's version was 1080x1920, and the other two were 720x1280.
That said, looking at it closer the higher-res one seems like it might just be a conversion of the HD HEVC Tiktok version, and the clarity was actually slightly less than the Instagram ones, so I swapped the merge order to have yours as the primary (the first of the 720p uploads).
Theoretically it might be possible to do higher-quality conversion of the HD Tiktok one, but there's a whole colorspace conversion issue I don't feel like dealing with at the moment.

Thanks for responding man, I truly appreciate it.
No, the 1080p version is noticably better in the fine details of that one.
Once again, the reasons for an image to not be picked as the primary in a merge are:
1. The other version was of observably better quality
2. If functionally identical, the other image was uploaded earlier
Unless you've actually compared the versions yourself and are sure actually sure neither of those are the case, there isn't much need to ask why, you already have your answer in the vast majority of cases. I don't think regular users can see the image ID of the non-primary versions after a merge unless they happen to have it in their browser history, so if they're identical, unless the other version is from months or years ago, just assume it was uploaded to the queue earlier.

My last upload was merged into another image and they look identical to me, so I guess the other image was uploaded earlier. What I am wondering, is how I could have known it was already uploaded. I checked for the name (when you are searching for a name, do the results include the images which are in the queue?) and even checked the most recent images without a name (when you do so, do you also see the unnamed images in the queue?). I didn't find the image in either way, so my conclusion was that it hadn't been uploaded by someone else.
How come? Are they higher resolution than the ones I shared?
Yes. They were also uploaded before yours, so even if there was no difference they would have won the merge.

Ah I see, thank you for the clarification. Apologies.
Yes, that's what I checked, but I'm sure the image wasn't there. So I'm curious what happened.
Likely the image wasn't named until later.
Like I said, if there's no real difference between the versions, it's safe to assume the other one was uploaded first if yours lost a merge.
But 2367645 is the lower number, right?
Yes, I misread that. I was reading 2367945, where the 6 is a 9. Thanks for being honest and pointing that out.
The image queue still exists, so it's possible this image was queued when you checked. This is a recurring issue, especially with that particular uploader. Also, it's possible the image wasn't named yet when you had checked.

I have found that some images on the waitlist are hidden and others can be found, so I think that was what happened. But I don't have a clue why there's a distinction between these two types of images on the waitlist. I'll open a new thread, because it's not really relevant here.
Correct of course but when a newer image is merged or deleted , that image number is surely lost.
