You could make a modern movie about bikini girls. But 80s nostalgia is trendy now.
I wonder how that would have played. Bikini contests seem to get a lot of flack.
A24 is a movie company that has gained popularity for being more focused on producing original and experimental pictures.
Just in case anyone missed it, there were 2 very quick (less than 1 second) instances of this:
Need to ser this
we have finally reached the point that marvel did. the muscle fans finally are old enough and have some backing to do work like this.
this is the kind of movie that likely wouldn't get out of development hell 20 years ago, 10 even. A24 has a good track record of decent to great movies on low budgets, so this is definitely getting coverage from a hit, since this likely won't make any money. but again a little shocking that something like this finally sees the light of day and it isn't a passion project from an indie producer

How do you know it isn’t a passion project? Not doubting you, just don’t know how that works.
It could be but not by a reputable studio like A24, even if this is something on the lower end of the stuff they release.
By passion project I mean something self funded and probably getting hold of professionals. It’s a little out of the realm although they got Stewart on board
Pros: Sapphic crime story. Female muscle. Looks wonderfully sleazy.
Cons: my dislike of Kristen Stewart is so old I don't know if I can break the habit.
Back in the day, if you saw ANY femuscle in a movie, it was in a dumb action flick for about 20 seconds. Between this and Fuchs’ Body Oddesy (dammit spellcheck, where are you when I need you?), two movies that actually look sophisticated, we’re living in a golden age.
This is the kinda thing we need btw. She’s attractive and buff. Too often the buff girls are caricatures in media so seeing someone hot that doesn’t have a huge receding hairline and some other sides is a boon for women on the fence about lifting.
Feel like we’ve made a step or two from “Michelle Obama has big arms”
I’ve been saying for the longest that all women need to see is a beautiful buff lady and more of them will start lifting. It’s the difference between seeing Iris Kyle and Dana Linn Bailey.

plenty of hot girls on tiktok doing a lot of work in this regard.
a lot of "average" looking girls too getting a lot more attention because they're fit, or kind of th usual thing were someone needs to lose maybe 2-3 pounds and cheekbones start to pop and give them a more defined facial look. reminds me of a lot of girls i grew up with that were cute but became beautiful once they lost some of the youthful fat. but i digress
Whoa -- I want to see this film!
Apparently it has a revenge plot wherein the bodybuilder played by O'Brian pulverizes and kills some bad dude who's been hitting on his woman.
And when I say "pulverizes," supposedly the O'Brian character does such a job on the guy's face that it's no longer recognizable as a face!
Fans of Sandi Stone stories have found their dream movie!!!
Ohh this movie sounds very promising. Here is a part from an article from Variety from the other day.
The movie creates a vision it sticks to. And that’s all about Jackie. At various points, we hear and see her muscles bulging, crackling, and growing, as if she were the Incredible Hulk, and this is not meant to be real; it’s a kind of metaphor. The steroids have taken her over, and when she goes to Vegas to participate in a bodybuilding competition, it’s both a triumph and a hallucinatory disaster. We think she’s lost it, or maybe lost herself.
But the film’s sly joke is that Jackie, in 1989, is becoming a new kind of woman, one who wears her strength on the outside. That’s why she has to pass through the looking glass of ‘roid-rage insanity to get to it. And that’s what Lou and Jackie’s love is rooted in: a new feminine power. “Love Lies Bleeding

Yeah, sounds like it'll do wonders to sway the mainstream.
