Do sites like this create "unrealistic" expectations?

You are correct Gatbsy...my error. But still, now we have two claims which go counter to current psychological study results.

norbertwinston:

> Your question reminds me of the whole "violent crime in video games causes violent crime in the real world" argument. Very simply put, it doesn't. That's been debunked.

Can you provide us with an article or paper which supports your claim Phenoms. From what I have found so far, the exact opposite to your claim appears to be the current concensus.

I didn't provide citations because I figured it was already common knowledge to the zeitgeist. But you asked a reasonable question, and I strongly believe in the merits of always being prepared to backup one's claims with credible citations...

August 5th, 2019 | PBS Newshour; Analysis: Why it’s time to stop blaming video games for real-world violence

Sub Citations:

February 2020 | American Psychological Association; APA Resolution on Violent Video Games PDF (Has 20 citations in bibliography)

August 19th, 2022 | PsyPost; Social Psychology; Playing violent video games does not appear to have a meaningful impact on aggression

The above includes 357 citations in total.

The first article also made reference to:

Wasn't Frank Zappa also involved in this as well?

Yup. That's the one. But the Dee Snider testimony really tore them to shreds, often using their own quotes.

It's okay though. Al Gore made up for it later when he "invented the Internet".

I didn't misread or misunderstand what you wrote. I just don't see what video games or other fiction has to do with the women on this site. There's no need for suspension of disbelief, world building, story telling or any of it. This is a slice of real life. In my mind video games, violent or otherwise have nothing at all to do with the issue the OP is talking about. Music is an art form too and has little to nothing to do with OP's original question or my statement. You're talking apples to oranges. The only bit of fantasy you mention is whether any of the women on this site might have sex with you. Even that has little to nothing to do with the OP's original question. He's wondering if he'd even be aroused by the women who years ago would have aroused him. That's the question, and at least to me it's an interesting one.

Thanks Phenoms! Now I have rather a lot of reading to do.

I have very strict boundaries between "reality" and "fantasy". Like, if a woman who looked like someone on this site approached me romantically in real life, my reaction (after stuttering and tripping over my words for awhile), would be "What are you up to, and how much money do you want from me?" Because I know that a beautiful woman, or even most ordinary women, are not attracted to me. Hell, most young MEN aren't attracted to me. So there's gotta be a catch. Otherwise it violates the suspension of disbelief.

Similarly, while I might fantasize about huge women, my expectations are so low that skin-and-bones woman could approach me and, once I realized she wasn't messing with my head, I'd be attracted. Consent and willingness are very attractive to me at this point.

Yes I do. The reality is that the women on here are relatively rare even though muscular women have become a bit more common in recent years due to greater acceptance, things like CrossFit, etc. There’s a woman in my neighborhood who competes at the figure level (I don’t think she’s on here and I won’t be posting her name or picture) but needless to say even at the figure level she is bigger than almost every woman on the gym I go to yet she’d be called a “lightweight” by half the members here. The average “fit”/muscular” woman in the average gym in America just isn’t very big compared to the women on here.

But the Dee Snider testimony really tore them to shreds, often using their own quotes.

Dee accusing Tipper Gore of having a dirty mind whilst Al can only watch on in silent rage has always been the highlight for me.

Good organization of thoughts.

Globally, I say "no" simply because our numbers and their numbers are so insignificantly small.

(our = fans of muscular women) (their = muscular women)

Within the fan culture, fantasy is supposed to blur reality.

A number of members have mentioned the difference between seeing even a fitness model in real life and seeing the bodybuilders on here. Is it possible that the photography itself is distorting our view? Like I say, if you saw even the fitness women IRL they'd look huge. I can't imagine coming across Anastasia Leonova (for instance) in real life, but if I did I'd probably be surprised at how short she is.

For me, the internet still feels like the internet, and real life feels like real life. They are always separate. If I see a woman in real life with the slightest hint of muscle it still excites me just as much as the first time. And on the internet, all I really do is compare women I'll never see in real life against other women I'll never see in real life. And that's fine to me.

This site hasn’t created any unrealistic expectations for me. My first serious gf back in high school was a beautiful gymnast who also ran track. She was a genetically gifted young woman who had a gorgeous muscular physique.

Over the course of my life I’ve dated quite a number of fit natural women and four competitive bodybuilders, three who used gear and one who was natural. The difference in their physiques was dramatic. I’ve used PEDs off and on myself for nearly two decades, having started using only after years of training naturally and playing a number of sports competitively.

But I do think it’s clear this site creates unrealistic expectations for many. I’m always amazed at some of the names that get mentioned as being natural. Crazy stuff. I’ve dated a few natural gals that took their bodies to the limits of what you can achieve naturally and the results are phenomenal. But this is extremely rare. I’ve just been lucky with the ladies in life and have lived in cities where there ain’t no shortage in supply.

@TheBigBoffer, well it sounds like you've had a fun filled life with muscular women. I've never been with a FBBer, or Physique/Figure level women, in defined, contest shape. I have been very fortunate to have been with some muscular women, one who is very thickly muscled and incredibly strong. I still see her from time to time. She's actually my ex-wife. 😁

Feeling is so much better than just seeing, so a woman with a reasonable amount of muscle, easily fulfills my desires completely. They obviously don't compare to most of the women on here but they are real.

By contrast, even counting only women that juice is greater than 2% of the general populous. (Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations... ))*

@phenoms - I agree with your larger points, but this didn't sound right to me. The article you cite says:

"Data on who uses steroids is scant. A 2013 review of earlier studies estimated that just 2 percent were women."

So, women that use steroids aren't 2% of the general population, they're 2% of steroid users. The study they're citing from 2013 has a top end estimate of 4m steroid users in the US in 2013, which would be 1.25% of the general population, which would make women .025% .

This site shows us many thousands of women who are serious about FBB, whether it be having a pro card or training for it or otherwise. On one had, I get used to seeing ginormous FBB, ultra vascular types of those with vacuum abs. On the other hand, it's great exposure to see this world of FBB. Many of these images and clips get me excited. At least we get to see these women from all of the globe. It doesn't matter to me if some or many of these women use HGH and the like or they don't. It's their choice.

I've been a fan of FBB since the 1980s when Rachel McLish get a lot of attention and then Tina Lockwood was the 8th wonder of the world. I used to follow Muscle Angels until I discover this site several years ago, now.

I belong to a local gym near me and see some really decent muscular women and those who just want to get muscle tone. I like seeing them train and inspires me to do the same. I have certainly upped my weight lifting program because of it.

BTW; there have been many new finds of some spectacular FBB on this site this year so many thanks to those who have posted these clips and images.

The only thought that I'll add is that Social Media in general (including this site) can give you an unrealistic idea of an FBB's daily conditioning.

Any woman who's regularly posting is closely curating her images. She only shows herself at her best - which makes total sense. Why would she make a post where she looks less than that.

Many of us are looking at Instagram and thinking that it's chronological. Like there's 50 photos of your favorite athlete in ripped condition, and you think "oh man, she's ripped all of the time."

This is - for the most part - not the case. Unless she's doing back-to-back contest preps, she's hopefully taking time off from blasting PEDs. And girls who do that look VASTLY different than their on prep looks.

The bodybuilder "look" is just as much leaness, conditioning, and pump as it is sheer mass.

I'm a huge fan of Chelsea Dion. She's a great athlete and seems like a genuinely cool person. She looks like a total ripped goddess when she's on prep, and she looks pretty, strong, and soft in the off season. If you saw off-season Chelsea walking down the street, most people would NEVER imagine that she would look the way that she does on stage. If she was fairly covered up in a sweatsuit, many guys might just think that she's overweight.

So all this is to say: many of us expect that these women look like their photos all of the time. For the sake of their own health, they usually don't.

Hi Phenoms! I have reviewed the many citations you very thoughtfully provided and now I retract what I said earlier. My apologies also go out to Gatsby. I have learned something because of your diligent search for supporting documents and thank you for the new concepts.

Now this is complete fantasy. Seeing someone accept that they are wrong and also apologize on the internet.

Hi Zaq...it's not as fantastic as you might think. But then, the average person usually only sees Trolls in action on the WWW so the sensation of dis-belief when witnessing an individual behaving in a reasonable and respectful manner is understandable.

Thank-you MannySanchez but I think that Phenoms deserves the kudo's here: he quickly found citations which supported his claim. A very rare thing indeed! And I appreciate his effort.

As for the subject of this thread, I think that some may develop unrealistic expectations but Reality and Experience should negate this. As many have pointed out, Fantasy is separate from their real life experience and expectations, therefore, they are not naive enough to allow the content of this website to warp their behaviour/views.
