What's the psychological reason why a man might be attracted to a woman with muscles?

I find that muscles actually accentuate the female figure. Broader shoulders make for the appearance of a smaller waist even if it’s not. And seeing a muscular woman in street clothes is a definite eye catcher even for those not attracted to muscular women. And I must admit the “domination” factor definitely enters into it. At least for me it does.

I can compare my love for muscular women to my love for jazz. Some time ago, my father-in-law wanted to learn about jazz, so I turned him on to some of the giants: Louis Armstrong, Miles, Coltrane, Duke, Bill Evans and so forth. Being a cerebral guy, he’d pepper me with questions about how best to listen. Since I’m not a musician, I couldn’t explain music theory, improvisation, scales or anything like that. I’d simply say, “Relax. Don’t think. Just listen. If you like what you’re hearing, great. If not, there are so many other legendary artists.”

And so it is with muscular girls. Some turn me on, some don’t. I don’t know why that is, and I don’t care.

I should add this. Many years ago, I heard a guy say, “Ain’t no tellin’ what will make a man’s dick get hard.”

This must be the only discussion where people proudly come to advertise how clueless they are.

I can only speak from my experiences as someone who was picked on as a child. The people that helped were usually female teachers, so maybe that has something to do with it. That said, I'm not interested in being dominated, beaten in arm wrestling, carried etc. That would only break out my competitive side. I do remember being on a school bus as a child and the girl next to me said "see this muscle" and I was far too young to be attracted to her as I was 5-6 years old. Maybe the fact that when my mind was being formed this made me associate females being strong so that's probably it, but I'm more attracted to their appearance, confidence, and even inspired by their dedication in building muscle as an adult.

This. A small waist is the most feminine feature on a female and it is accentuated on fit women.

Depends on your definition of obsessed.

This fetish can be seen in terms of a borderline's fantasy of being rescued.

Or a relapse in a struggle for self-differentiation.

The pill makes women dissatisfied and their sons afraid of moody women.

This has also led to people becoming risk-averse and afraid to act.

The late, great, Hugh Hefner was once asked why his girlfriends pretty much all looked the same. His answer was brilliant: "At some point in a boy's life, usually as a young teenager, his mind determines what's physically attractive to him. And that never really changes much as he ages." I can pinpoint that exact point in my life, my first "real" girlfriend (in grade 10) was a powerlifter from Hawaii. Yeah we were in grade 10, but she was built. Looking back, I can only think of two women that I've been with that were not at least actively athletic. Most were athletically competitive, whether runners, powerlifters, physique competitors, motocross racers (like me), etc.
