It was a shame the tall sand-judo(?) girl picked the rugby guy, with her skills for that game type she definitely could have been competitive against a man a couple of weight classes below her, but then she picked the heaviest guy remaining?!
Yeah I was thinking the same. She picked the worst possible opponent for the event. I mean the purpose is who can hold the ball and you pick a heavy rugby guy? I don't think that was brave, just stupid. So I suppose she just wanted out.
Too bad, she was gorgeous.
Fully caught up on watching episodes properly now, it's going to be very interesting to see how An Da Jeong copes in the next challenge.
Some of the more conventional athletes were exhausted after the 12 minutes of packing and carrying sand, and it's tough to imagine her stamina holding up particularly well.
If she's out we'll always have the clip of her tackling and ripping the ball away from that smaller girl she was matched up against, and then celebrating with the double bi flex (episode 3, 19 mins)
There've been a load of competitions in Europe somewhat similar to this down the years (though much less flashy and with much fewer competitors) and nearly all the challenges are endurance, puzzle or obstacle based. Baffling that they thought that hold the ball challenge was good idea if they want the competition to have any integrity. There was really nothing to stop all the guys just picking to go up against women and get a free pass to the next round?
Really hope we get some kind of isometric hold challenge before the end. Then you get to really see the fight of these athletes and the women would be in with an excellent chance of winning.
An absolute tragedy An Da Jeong and Chun-ri Kim didn’t fight each other in this show
> Why did they have to mix women with men? I don't want to see dudes, only ladies.
Because there are way more women interested in muscular men than there are men interested in muscular women. Netflix are just playing to their audience.
This is particularly true in advertising, specially in parfumes: lean-as-a-stick woman is supposed to be as attractive as a superbuff dude? Well, that's what they want us to believe. In reality the man has put 100x the effort the woman has.
An Da Jeong is also out and hardly got any screen time. Too bad. Only one wrestler left who has somewhat muscular physique.
An Da Jeong and Chunri Kim out and meanwhile that 40kg stunt girl makes it through because she was the best at building bridges! (She did build a fantastic bridge though)
As you say along with the wrestler team captain I feel like the only interest remaining is the potential awkwardness if the two American guys end up as the final two.
> damn! chun ri got clowned on by a dude half her muscle mass. really puts into perspective the biological differences at play. props to chunri though, she put up a very good fight. now we cheer on for an da jeong!
That's the difference between size hypertrophy and fiber density hypertrophy. Muscle can be big, simply because there's fluid build up which swells them up. That's why Cross Fit athletes aren't super big, but they are strong as a horse. Cross Fitters muscle size is actually increased density, which increases the power output. More fibers, more output. Also neurology impacts it, because the more your neurons have grown out into the muscle, the more fibers you can activate.
This. All day.
Of course big muscles are correlated with strength, but it's not direct. Pound-for-pound, a strength athlete will be FAR stronger than a bodybuilder. It's probably also true for many competitive sports like rugby and football too. Training for big aesthetic muscle mass is very different than training for maximum force.
Not to mention, when bodybuilders are super lean and their muscles are popping and almost stage ready... that's typically the weakest that they'll be at overall lifts.
The decision to have mixed events is... interesting. Unless some of it is staged I'd expect these girls to be flung around like ragdolls by the men.
Obviously, places like this forum like to fantasise about muscular women dominating men but the reality is that the power differential is still enormous.
In this case it is, yes. If you're comparing super fit women to super fit men with comparable training, there is no contest. The men are going to be 3-4 times as strong as the females. I think what some of us like to fantasize about is super fit women dominating average and ordinary men. That's something entirely different. It's not unusual for a very fit and muscular woman to be stronger than the average man. I know some guys can't quite get their heads around that, but it's true. Take a random guy off the street and have him compete against a female in the top 50 crossfitters in the country and see what happens. There are thousands of women (maybe millions) in the U.S. alone who can clean and jerk 200 lbs or more. That is literally twice as strong as the average man.
There's still that one bodybuilders wife still in. She's not especially big, but she's flirty with her beast of a husband! I really would've liked some of the bigger ladies to make it though. Poor Chun-ri Kim was super hard countered really early on :/

Someone upload a gif of this please
The match was cut to 10 seconds. The show is horribly edited.
That’s not An Da Jeong but was another good example of a female bodybuilder being too strong for her opponent.
The other notable An Da Jeong scene was in episode 2 (12 mins) when they walked into the room to line up after the hanging challenge and she is stretching her T shirt and shorts to the limit (and even her socks with her massive calves). That one is just a few seconds though they do have some other shots of her standing next to people (she happened to be next to the 6’8 baseball pitcher which made for an interesting visual).
People don’t realize that muscle doesnt just represent aesthetics or strength, it represents speed/agility/explosiveness.
Yes, technique can overcome these advantages but at a certain point it becomes too much.

Not necessarily. You have to specifically train for speed/agility/explosiveness, not to mention inherent genetic factors play a big part. There are lots of muscular people who look the part aesthetically and then get absolutely dusted by someone who seems to be comparatively out of shape.
Muscle represents agility LMAO. People don't realize how much I love it when you cats correct others with equally incorrect statements.
It's especially funny that he implied technique isn't that important when proper technique can shave tenths of seconds off of, say, a 40 yard dash or a three cone drill. Technique is super important, as is training for a specific purpose. Just building muscle isn't going to do much.

Nothing to do with biology and everything to do with the fact that the guy is a grappler and I think an MMA fighter anyone who went against him would’ve gotten the same result if not wayy worse seeing as he went easy on her if uve ever grappled with anyone who actually knows bjj judo or wrestling u would kno that if u have no background in grappling and they grab u ur done for
That MMA fighter lost my respect the moment when he chose a woman. If a woman chose a man it would be ok, but on the contrary... physiological differences between men and women simply cannot be erased even if society pretends they don't exist. Of course, we can argue that the selection was fair because the competition allowed the man to choose the woman. But the rules of that show definitely do not correspond to my perception of honor and fair play. The disciplines of this competition are designed specifically to eliminate big, fat, heavy, muscular, women... in short, to eliminate all those whose bodies do not correspond to the "fitness average" and who do not have experience in fighting. Maybe the next disciplines will be more focused on strength, weight, etc. But these unique people won't be there anymore!
If I’m not mistaken I’m almost a hundred percent sure that she challenged him

Spot on. One is a trained fighter, eventually even if the opponent is strong, technique & fighting skill will come out on top
Chunri giggling and smiling, having no idea this dude would crush her lol. I think Biology kinda plays a part but mostly I agree with everyone saying he won cause he’s a trained fighter and she’s not. Also him picking a woman to fight wasn’t really a scummy move since it wasn’t against the rules and pretty much everyone thought Chunri could handle herself.
You are wrong. But on this show, it's okay. The problem is mainly in some kind of almost hysterical reaction in some narrow circles of political activists.

Look at her eyes and the way her lip quivers when she's challenged. Nothing about her body language is cocky, she's scared.
