Old pics showing as new posts

So this pic just showed up in my notification list as a new pic.

Love her, and all that. But I've had this pic favorited for years. Suddenly I'm being shown this as a new pic in my notifications list. Why?

Maybe because some new user just post it again

Someone posted a duplicate of it which was then merged into the older copy.

Ahh ok so the duplicate triggered the new notification and the comments are from both. Got it.
