An Da-Jeong Heart Attack

I wonder if the “changes” had anything to do with asking Shaw to downsize a bit this year.

Or maybe not. It could be related to steroids but no one has stopped (that I’ve heard) Michaela from growing like a weed even from last year

I wish her a speedy recovery. If the information is correct and she did have a heart attack that is a career ending event. There are different kinds of heart attacks but any of them will put a final stop to her competitive bodybuilding.

A healthy young athletic woman with no prior pathology getting a heart attack is a very very slim probability, one in the millions.

She did compete at the Olympia a couple of days ago which means peak week and peak stress to her body, dehydration, extreme diet, drugs, bad sleep. She is obviously mRNA vaccinated multiple times or she would not been able to travel to US. And she has obliviously used PEDs for many years prior. Add to that international travel back and forth between continents in a short time frame.

Other people put their bodies to the same stress and do fine but some are just "unlucky", no one knows where their luck ends and this lifestyle has nothing to do with longevity.

IFBB is trying to stop FBB turning into a freak show that no promoter wants to have at his shows and no one wants to watch. By forcing the winner go softer they are sending a message to the other competitors to tone it down. Same thing happened at the wellness division, all muscular competitors got penalized and same story at bikini. 1st place had a less developed physique than the top 5.

They don't care about drugs, they care about marketability.

I get the other classes but WBB is never going to marketable. It’s a niche within a niche. I’m inclined to believe it’s less about marketability and more about covering their asses and not requiring insane size and conditioning to win anymore to reduce chances of bad publicity from women kicking it.

The women in the larger classes have been coming in better conditioned than a lot of men in recent years, and I’m sure it has a toll. But no way that we can even talk about bikini/wellness and wbb in the same sentence in terms of audience appeal.

Wish An the best hope for a speedy recovery

I am neither pro or anti vaccine but I did take the first 2 shots as recommended by my doctor. 1st one felt fine however after taking the 2nd one I started getting tight chest pain, I remember being at home and getting random/rapid heart palpitations. I am a young healthy guy under 30, never had these issues before and I am convinced it was because of the vaccines. Haven't taken another vaccine since and don't plan to in the future.

Isn't Nataliya Korableva a wings of strength ambassador? How can they be promoting softer when she is as big as they come?

Until we hear what happened to An, you're making assumptions with no facts. Stop disrespecting her and the bodybuilding profession until we know if she's even in the hospital and for what. Otherwise, you're all gossiping like school children.

This is an awful take.

There's nothing disrespectful about pointing out the obvious - her profession is unhealthy. That's okay, lots of people make the conscious decision to do unhealthy things because they enjoy them. That's her choice and I respect it, but facts are facts. Steroids are awful for your heart and she, according to her own words, suffered a heart attack. It is what it is.

PS. Bodybuilding, as a profession, deserves no respect. That line alone suggests that your primary concern is about the perception of the sport rather than her health.

> Sorry if I came across aggressive, that wasn't my intention. I naturally agree with you about the speculations and the well-wishing. I should have refrained from adding the last sentence in retrospect.

You're fine. I hope people don't see my comments as aggressive, either. They aren't intended that way.

Na just ignorant. No worries. Literally pictures from ehr in hospital and you're still not believing she's even in there? loool

As was alluded to earlier, there have been other cases of competitors suffering heart attacks shortly after a show. The one that still stands out for me is Terri Harris, who had a fatal heart attack 1-2 days after competing. I think the story was that she was doing cardio at the hotel or something.

I'm low-key surprised no one has yet accused An of using faked photos as a GoFundMe pretext.

I hope she's OK. This lifestyle is no joke and even the seemingly strongest-built humans in the world can have minor soft spots in the fabric that can result in an unforeseen calamity.

Facts are facts, and we have none. Period. If she had a heart attack for steroid abuse, then that's bad. But we don't know that yet for sure, do we? I just am going by someone's word at this point. Of course it's a possibility, and that in itself is sad enough.

It's ridiculous to think that my concern for her is me trying to defend the sport. But go ahead and make your false assumptions. It doesn't hurt me when you're wrong, since believing incorrect things about individuals is just a mistake.

If bodybuilding deserves no respect, then why are you here? I am asking sincerely, not as an accusatory question. This is a website for people who admire female bodybuilders. Only a small handful of the women featured on here are not on something that helps them become more muscular. Are you just saying that the sport needs to stop encouraging rampant steroid/PED use? It would be a drastically different sport if they started more stringently testing competitors.

I edited my comment before anyone replied in order to try and reflect that my comment/reply isn't stated with ill intentions or a mean spirit. I'm a hippie at heart.

I don't know where you're from, but here in the U.S. facts mean nothing, especially if they go against ones beliefs or what one wants to believe.

That said, there are facts here...

1) According to her own social media, she suffered a heart attack. (maybe she was hacked)

2) Just a little over a week ago she competed in The Olympia. (perhaps it was a doppelganger)

3) To compete at this high a level man or woman you have to be on PED's and more. And the more mass a particular division requires generally the more you're using. (but maybe she's a genetic freak and is all natural)

Let us know when it's alright to comment on the facts.

I didn't see this coming at all. Speedy recovery. So many losses recently :(

Did you just equate mrna vaccine possible heart dmg (reminder that she is a woman and that the risk to overall heart health is exceedingly low even in the rare cases that it happens) to all the rest? Lol. Ignoring the disrespectful assumptions made, PEDs will do so much more to your heart than the rest. Some people really ate the anti vax bs. I even dislike having to say this because it distracts from An's condition, but ignorance does that even more.

Oh no they are going to lock the thread if the covid "debate" starts up.

Since this heart attack could very well end An Da Jeong's career, would it be wise to assume she'd rely on something bodybuilding adjacent like personal training as her thing to do?

Thank you for laying it out for me. You may comment on facts now at your convenience, LOL. I look forward to hearing updates on how An's doing.

For anyone who doesn't keep up to date with her Instagram story:

  • She is definitely in hospital for at least one heart attack
  • She is up and walking around though, although needs an IV bag (I assume, I'm not a doctor)

An's Instagram profile

(I apologize for the image quality, I had to translate with my phone)

Hope she gets better soon. It's known that Steroid usage linked with hypercougulation in the blood. Maybe after this she'll need to tone down the gears. But i hope she'll still able to do bodybuilding in a less stress way

Dec 28, 2022 - permalink

Probably not. Her heart will now be very second-hand. A heart attack in your 30s is not normal. Imagine the faces of the medics when the blood test results came back, if the assumed use is in fact true! I imagine that any future PED use would be a suicide mission.

Remember, it's not just the steroids. It's also HGH, test, SARMs, clenbuterol, diuretics and stimulants for rapid weight loss before a show. Throw on top of that possible chronic use of opioids to deal with injuries (although I suspect this would be more common for wrestlers and other athletes than for bodybuilders). What a mess.

The Manions care about promoting women they themselves fap to/think they can get into the sack. So muscular "for a girl", but not TOO big or threatening.

FBB came back to the Olympia because Jake Wood put a whole bunch of money into promoting shows -- and Jake Wood faps to the big girls.

Heart attacks are very common among people not doing any sports also, so assuming someone into bodybuilding had a heart attack because of bodybuilding is completely baseless. Don't confuse correlation with causation.

My gosh.... don't be silly. It's obvious, drug abuse. There are a lot of medics talking about steroid abuse thanks to social media.

It isn't obvious. I'd say it's a good bet that PED use was a contributing factor, but not obvious. It happened around contest time and pro FBBs put their bodies through hell to get that lean and conditioned for contest day. Her heart might not have been able to take it on that strain alone. Or it could've been that plus the strain PEDs put on her body. Or maybe she has a medical condition of some sort. We don't know yet.
