MARTIN COUNTY — A woman identified as a professional fitness figure and “digital influencer” from Canada was arrested after sheriff’s officials reported linking her to a package from Canada with several anabolic steroid type medications, according to recently-released records.
Melissa Kate Bumstead, 30, was arrested Friday after Martin County Sheriff’s Office investigators said she was listed as an “importer” of the drugs from a shipper in Montreal, Quebec. She was arrested on six felony counts of possession of controlled substance without a prescription.
Bumstead is listed as an International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Figure Pro athlete. Her Instagram profile has 103,000 followers. She also offers a variety of coaching packages on her website, ranging from $350 to $4,000
The case began at least as early as Sept. 1 when a package in Memphis, Tennessee, got “selected for an extensive exam” by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. The package, addressed to Bumstead at an address in the 5400 block of Southwest Landing Creek Drive in Palm City, was determined to contain steroids and other prescription medication, records show.
A Homeland Security Investigations agent on Sept. 8 contacted Martin sheriff’s officials and investigators ultimately learned anabolic steriod-type drugs, including testosterone propionate, drostanolone propionate and oxandrolone were in the package.
A detective covertly delivered the package to the Southwest Landing Creek Drive address, and officials said evidence on Bumstead’s hands indicated she opened it.
Investigators linked the home to where the package was addressed to a limited liability company, the registered agent of which is Christopher A Bumstead. That’s the name of Melissa Bumstead’s brother, according to social media information in an arrest affidavit.
Melissa Bumstead has participated in a variety of contests as early as 2015, according to greatestphysiques.com
Melissa Bumstead was released Sept. 11 from the Martin County Jail, according to a jail official. The bond amount was not available.
A person who answered a phone number listed for Melissa Bumstead on an arrest report declined comment Tuesday.
No attorney is listed for her in Martin clerk’s records.

So this is Canadian law.
U.S. law - she is in Florida. Because it was an international package, there's an additional layer of scrutiny and customs had the right to investigate. Having powder on her hands doesn't seem like much of a smoking gun, though - she opened a package that was addressed to her home, how unusual is that? But I'm not sure how these one-off cases are prosecuted if at all.
Just read the article this morning, bummer. Never was much of a fan of our legal system. Aren't there some real crimes to worry about?
What dumb person imports roids from a foreign country into the US? Oh…HER🥴
Yeah, shipping that stuff internationally was pretty stupid.
Looked up her pictures. She is pretty good. Ironically on on “Fit andNatural” 😆

"Natural" bodybuilder busted for roids. That's awesome.

I’m all for steroid use (I really don’t care if someone uses or not,) but the incessant claims from many fitness personalities that they’re “natural” is so lame. Like it’s one thing to deny it if someone asks you (which given the legality of it is understandable,) but to actively proclaim that you’re natty is laughable.

Yeah, I didn't mean to come across as anti-roids. I take PED myself. I personally think fake natty's can be harmful to the fitness industry, very misleading to beginners, and just well, lame, as you put it.
So, to see one actually busted is, somewhat satisfying and humorous.
There's been quite a few over the last few (7) years who've been "natural", but, were selling illegal steroids on their businesses.. (stuff imported, as well, to the U.S.) And, yes, they were using their own products.
She's caught in the middle. This is suspect af. Not random. DEA doesn't pursue small time users or sellers. Also hope y'all picked up what fucked her. And fuck anyone who thinks this is cool or funny. Every girl on this site uses gear, and the favorites use loads. Either support it or shut up. Surely you're not all so fucking ignorant to think publicly stating use of illegal substances is a good move.
Fake natty's suck. They just do. You don't have to hold a press conference to state that you're on gear (who would do that) but neither do you have to falsely advertise that you're natural.
i think the real crime here is that she's charging 4000 for a package
what's in that package?
why do people hire these people?
i'm close to being in the best shape of my life (minus some fat to shed) following a 15$ a month program--this is not to brag or throw around numbers but i'm close to or over lifetime maxes in compound lifts on this thing. programs and coaches are a dime a dozen. that package comes out to almost 350 a month lol i once hired dani reardon to do my coaching which included food and that was only 100.
Oh my god. You search her name and all you will see is this arrest and steroids articles with her face in top stories. That's messed up.

Such a shitty situation for her. And given the amount that they caught her with, they might try to charge her for selling.
The war on drugs is really bullshit.
