Why "No contest pictures or contest tans"?

I think this rule is greatly exaggerated. There is nothing wrong with a photo from a contest, many of them have almost no contest tan, and they look great.

Mostly because they're very same-y and I would worry that if the rule were removed there would be too many.

I don't mind a select few per model.

Honestly, I'm pretty lenient on the "contest tan" part, especially as many women also get natural tans and it can be hard to differentiate, I usually only remove those if they're also mediocre otherwise.  The stage photos part I'm more strict on, since there are dedicated galleries for those elsewhere with hundreds of photos of each woman.  I only really make exceptions in the cases of old classic female bodybuilders from decades ago where a few stage photos may be all that's available, and individual exceptional shots.

Mine gets taken down normally. I don’t complain, as I don’t want to rat another user out and get their pic taken down. Once again, very subjective.

In essence, you are not allowed to upload contest photos, unless you are the moderator. This is for example:

That pic of Ariel Conetta is literally the only photo I've seen of her biceps from the back, and there isn't much of her on the site to begin with, hence why I posted it. I could point you to dozens of pics from non-moderator users that are still up for similar reasons, but you'd just ignore that because you want to feel aggrieved.

I always thought this rule was to mitigate copyrighted material, because most of the professional contest pictures are always from photographers that watermark their pictures and sell them (except for a few excerpts for the models).

You're right, it is a subjective rule. It is not a rule that is written in stone, as it appears in the "strongly discouraged" section of the upload rules. Some of mine have been removed by other mods. Each mod has to interpret this rule in their own way. For me, if it is a photo just copied straight from npcnewsonline, rxmuscle, or any other existing contest photo site, I'll typically delete it, for the reason Chainer mentioned above. On the other hand, if it happens to be a unique, high quality photo and she doesn't already have much content on the site, I'll leave it alone.

I agree about removing contest pics from women who already have thousands of casual flexing images on the site. But it should be allowed for models who barely have an active instagram or flexing photos avaialable. And every small bit of footage / picture of them flexing is a gift.

@Muscleindo: the shot of Rach White that you cite seems to be a show picture, but it is not a stage shot. If I was a mod, knowing that shows are complicated and have many moving parts, I'd leave it up.

I can see Chainer wanting to avoid the kind of contest photos that were often on the DtV site - amateur shots of the entire stage from the other side of the auditorium. They had hundreds, if not thousands of those. They were always totally uninteresting to me. However, photos of individual women, professional or amateur, in contest shape with the tanner still in place are just fine in my opinion.

Administrators should be able to enforce the rules. What are the rules for if only to be broken?

Having seen many of the contest images and competition tan images that have been removed, I’ll agree with Chainer that the images are in general same-y, though also in general feel more opportunistic, than trying to do the model justice.

I know it is frustrating to have an image removed, especially when it is subjective, but it is also frustrating when the quality of content ends up going down.

The way I describe this site is as being a semi-curated collection of images of women with muscle. This means it is not an anything goes site and we as moderators try to keep a bar that is balanced between not being too strict, but not too low either.

Remember there are multiple people in the team trying to strike the right balance, based on the rules and guidelines, and we don’t always make equal decisions simply because things can be fuzzy. An algorithm is even worse, as Tumblr and YouTube demonstrate.

How about the guest pose? Is it allowed?

What do you mean by "guest pose"? If they're still onstage and tanned it wouldn't make much difference, it would depend on the quality of the shot and how much of that woman there is on the site otherwise etc, but probably wouldn't usually stay up.

I honestly think you guys should either change the rule or be more specific as to what's appropriate for this site. The inconsistency can be frustrating, and it's why a lot of people end up making accusations about favoritism because things are enforced haphazardly.
