Forum threads opening oldest-to-newest

I want to see the new posts first.

I disagree, this would be an unexpected break from a lot of similar forum software, including the old forum. Also there is already a last page link.

Maybe some functionality to skip to the first unread post if one exists?

That would be better, yes. That's how they open up on vBulletin. It's mainly this one thread that's hard for me to enjoy:
