The headlines in Montreal newpapers today went like this: "FIRST LADY GREETS QUEEN SLEEVELESS" - Heck, if Michelle Obama wore a sleeveless dress while visiting Canada, and I'm in the room, I'd ask her to FLEX!!! Some decades ago Michelle would have been instantly arrested cause she even touched the queen by putting her arm around her waiste ;) No one's touching the queen. Shaking hands is the exception. But who knows.. maybe the queen's gonna wear sleeveless in a few years as well... and flexes side by side with Michelle! :D
I find the media obsession with Michelle Obama and her arms to be comic at best and pathetic at worst. Not only is it the most trivial non news issue I've ever heard about a first lady (which I guess isn't saying much) but her arms don't impress me....at all.
Agreed. And speaking of arms, adult film star Marilyn Chambers passed away yesterday at the tender age of 57. I certainly don't want to lose my reputation as a clean-cut bona-fide Professor, but I was never exactly a "Reverend." I bring up Marilyn (who starred in notorious classics such as "Behind The Green Door" and "Insatiablbe") because for her time she had beautiful muscular arms. No, I've never seen her flex her arms but it was flexing those "other muscles" that brought people into the theater and lead Marilyn to fame and fortune!!!
Prior to making adult films Marilyn Chambers was famous for appearing on a...er..."box" (pardon the pun) of "Ivory Soap". Rest in peace Marilyn Chambers. In my book you've always been "The First Lady" of porn. Thanks for the memories!
Speaking of Marilyn Chambers. In the mid-70s she was in Montreal and Toronto making a horror movie called "RABID". Not a porn flick - but a mainstream Canadian motion picture. At the time, she was trying to break away from the adult industry. Marilyn looked incredible and had beautiful muscular arms. She was a pretty good actress too- no matter what movie she was in!!! Well, on Michelle Obama's arms, I do find it irritating but I see it as a good thing. True, her arms aren't terribly impressive by our standards but compared to the average woman - and especially the average first lady - they are noteworthy. I hope that at the very least this will cut down on the number of women who are afraid to pick up a weight because they are convinced that one rep with anything more than 5 lbs will make them look "freaky."
I'll be the first to admit i don't like Ms. Obama, but I will give her props on her arms and I have no problem with her showing them, no matter where she is. I'll give her a "you go girl" for that! Kristi
